When was the last time you felt alive?
You're working hard to build a good life. But are you actually taking the time to live it?
Most men I know are pretty damn good at handling responsibilities.
They get up. Go to work. Pay the bills. Take care of their families. Do what needs to be done.
And then they wake up and do it all over again.
But here's something I've noticed over the years.
When I'm talking with a friend or someone I'm mentoring, I'll sometimes ask a simple question:
"What do you have coming up that you're really excited about?"
You'd be surprised how often I hear nothing.
No trip planned. No adventure. No hobby. Nothing they're genuinely looking forward to.
Just another week of grinding.
And I can't help but wonder:
What are we working so damn hard for if we're forgetting to enjoy the life we're building?
Don't misunderstand me. I'm all about hard work, discipline, and taking care of our responsibilities.
But I also believe God gave us this life to experience, not just endure.
For me, getting offshore and chasing big tuna has always been one of those things that makes me feel alive. There's something about being on the ocean, the anticipation, the challenge, and the friendships that reminds me why those experiences matter.
Your thing might be completely different.
Maybe it's traveling with your wife, playing golf with your buddies, hiking, learning something new, or simply spending an afternoon with your kids.
Whatever it is, don't keep putting it off until someday.
Someday has a way of never showing up.
FORGED TRUTH
A successful life isn't measured only by what you accomplish.
It's also measured by what you experience, who you share it with, and the memories you create along the way.
You can build an impressive career and still miss the life happening right in front of you.
God didn't create us simply to work, pay bills, and repeat.
There is a time for work, a time for rest, and a time to enjoy the blessings we've been given.
“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.”
There is a time for work, a time for rest, and a time to enjoy the blessings we've been given.
"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live."
— Ecclesiastes 3:12 (NIV)
Finding joy and satisfaction in the life God has given us isn't something we should feel guilty about.
It's a gift worth appreciating.
FORGED ACTION
Ask yourself:
When was the last time I did something that genuinely made me feel alive?
What have I been putting off because I've been too busy?
Who would I love to share that experience with?
Now pick one thing you've been wanting to do.
Put it on your calendar.
Not six months from now.
Make a plan to do it within the next 30 days.
CLOSE
Men, don't get so caught up building a life that you forget to live it.
Work hard. Provide. Lead. Chase your goals.
But make time for the moments that remind you why you're doing it all in the first place.
Because at the end of this journey, the memories you made and the people you shared them with will matter far more than another completed to-do list.
Quote to Remember
"Don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life."
